The NOVA 1401 is an automatic dielectric breakdown tester. The tester performs the dielectric breakdown test on round film insulated magnet wire according to NEMA-1000. Optional fixtures allow the NOVA 1401 to test tape, film and sheet insulation. The tester has a test voltage range of 0 to 20,000 volts. The rate of voltage rise is selected through the rotary switch from 20 to 500 volts per second. In the manual mode, the test voltage can be selected through a potentiometer for continuous testing of the specimen until failure occurs. An electronic timer indicates the duration of the constant voltage test in manual mode.

The tester has a large clear polycarbonate test compartment with two safety switches. A mechanical-contact specimen holder plugs into the high voltage terminals in the test compartment for testing. The dielectric breakdown test voltage is displayed until it is reset by the operator. The modular design allows for easy maintenance.
